Our practice

Dr. Campo practiced in Lakeview for several years before he opened his own practice in Metairie. More than 30 years on, he still practices comprehensive dentistry, still takes time to explain the best treatment options, and still treats each patient like a member of his family.

Noel has worked the front desk since 2004. Gabrielle, the hygienist, was his patient as a child.

How the practice works

Dental health care, not disease care.

That is the practice’s own line, and it describes the work: catch problems early, keep the office safe, and make the visit one you do not dread.

Dental examination instruments laid out on a tray.
01

Prevention and education first

The problem: finding out about a cavity only when it starts to hurt.

Thorough exams of your teeth and gums, an oral cancer exam, x-rays when they are necessary, and a review of your medical history, because new medications and illnesses can affect your dental health. Cleanings, sealants and fluoride do the rest.

Sealed sterilization pouches of dental instruments.
02

Uncompromising safety

The problem: the part of a dental office nobody shows you.

Sterilization and cross-contamination processes are strictly maintained to the standards recommended by the American Dental Association, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Centers for Disease Control.

A positive experience

The problem: feeling uneasy before you have even sat down.

The team knows how uneasy some patients feel about a dental visit. Dr. Campo spends time explaining the best treatment options, so you know what is happening and why, and feel relaxed and right at home.

Four people ask about most.

Same-day CEREC® crowns

The tooth is photographed, the crown is designed on screen, and a milling unit shapes it from a block of ceramic matched to your tooth color within minutes. No temporary crown, and one visit instead of two.

Zoom!® whitening

Chairside whitening that treats all of the teeth at once: a cleaning first, then three 15-minute applications of whitening gel activated by a special light.

SureSmile®

Braces planned on a 3-D model of your teeth, with an archwire shaped by computer and activated by body heat. More precision, and fewer adjustment visits.

Sleep apnea appliances

A custom appliance that brings the lower jaw slightly forward to keep the airway open at night. For many patients an alternative to CPAP, once the dentist has made a diagnosis.

Technology in the office

Find it sooner. Fix it in one visit.

Dr. Campo attends lectures, meetings and dental conventions to keep up with new techniques, products and equipment. Three of them change what a visit is like.

  • Digital x-raysAn electronic sensor instead of film, an image that can be enlarged on screen straight away, and 80 to 90% less radiation than traditional dental x-rays.
  • Diagnodent® laserA safe fluorescent laser that finds hidden tooth decay in its earliest stages, without scratching or probing.
  • CEREC®Computer-assisted design and an in-office milling unit, so a ceramic crown, inlay, onlay or veneer can be made the same day.

Common questions

What people ask before they book.

Do you take my dental insurance?

The practice accepts most dental insurance programs, including non-managed care and PPO out-of-network, and is not part of any managed care network. The staff prepare the forms for your dental benefits and will gladly submit a pre-treatment estimate to your insurance company, so you know what your benefits will be.

What should I do in a dental emergency?

Call (504) 888-1617. The office makes every effort to see and care for you as soon as possible. If a tooth has been knocked out, pick it up by the crown, not the root, rinse it, and keep it from drying out: back in the socket if you can, otherwise in a cup of milk. Then get to the dentist quickly and safely.

Can a crown really be done in one visit?

Often, yes. With CEREC® the crown is designed on screen and milled in the office from a ceramic block that matches your tooth color, so many treatments are completed in a single visit, with no temporary crown in between.

How can I pay for treatment?

Cash, personal checks, money orders, and Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. Payment is expected at the time of treatment, and financial arrangements can be made for more extensive care. CareCredit lets you pay over time, with no-interest financing if paid within 12 months, subject to credit approval.

Are dental x-rays safe?

The office uses digital radiography, which reduces radiation by 80 to 90% compared with the already low exposure of traditional dental x-rays. Only the x-rays that are necessary are taken, and a lead apron protects the body.
